A guide from the Qurʾān, the Sunnah, the pious predecessors,
and the rulings of the four madhāhib.
"This day I have perfected for you your religion and completed My favour upon you, and have approved Islām as your religion."
"There is no day on which Allāh frees more of His servants from the Fire than the Day of ʿArafah. He draws near, then boasts of them to the angels, saying: 'What do these people want?'"
"It expiates the sins of the past year and the coming year."
For non-pilgrims. Begin at true dawn (Ṣubḥ Ṣādiq) and break at sunset of the 9th of Dhū al-Ḥijjah.
The Prophet ﷺ said: "The best supplication is the supplication of the Day of ʿArafah, and the best that I and the Prophets before me have said is:"
"There is no god but Allāh, alone, without partner. To Him belongs all dominion and all praise, and He is over all things, Powerful."
"Whoever cannot stand at ʿArafah, let him stand at the limits Allāh has set. Whoever cannot reach the sacred sites, let him reach the Lord of the sacred sites — for He is closer to him than his jugular vein." — Laṭāʾif al-Maʿārif
Sufyān al-Thawrī wept on this day, saying: "The worst state is the one who thinks Allāh will not forgive him."
Imam Mālik would not occupy himself with any book on this day — only duʿāʾ and dhikr until sunset.
Imam Aḥmad confirmed: fasting it was the practice of the people of knowledge.
The Prophet ﷺ said: "The Days of Tashrīq are days of eating, drinking, and remembrance of Allāh."
Eid extends across four days: 10, 11, 12, and 13 Dhū al-Ḥijjah. A continuous season of joy, gratitude, dhikr, family, and sacrifice.
| Madhhab | Ruling |
|---|---|
| Ḥanafī | Wājib (obligatory) on every adult male required for Jumuʿah |
| Mālikī | Sunnah Muʾakkadah — highly emphasized |
| Shāfiʿī | Sunnah Muʾakkadah — congregation or individual |
| Ḥanbalī | Farḍ Kifāyah — communal obligation |
All four schools agree it is one of the great salient symbols of Islam — no Muslim community should let the day pass without it.

"When the ten days [of Dhū al-Ḥijjah] begin, and one of you intends to offer a sacrifice, let him not remove anything from his hair or his nails until he has offered the sacrifice."

"May Allāh accept it from us and from you."
May Allāh accept our fasts, our prayers, our sacrifices, our charity, and our supplications. May He free us — and our families and the entire Ummah of Muḥammad ﷺ — from the Fire on the Day of ʿArafah, and admit us into Jannat al-Firdaws. Āmīn.
